What to Expect

Sasaab’s individual rooms redefine luxury in the heart of nature. With eight uniquely styled accommodations, each featuring a spacious 100m² design, thatched roofs, and canvas sides, guests are treated to a private sanctuary overlooking the river. The rooms boast private plunge pools and open verandas, offering an intimate connection with the stunning surroundings. The interiors are elegantly appointed with a contemporary North African design, creating a harmonious blend of comfort and exotic aesthetics.

The lodge’s architecture prioritises the natural environment, allowing guests to witness herds of elephants bathing in the river below and enjoy panoramic views of the Laikipia Plateau. Sasaab’s commitment to an unforgettable stay is evident in the rooftop stargazing beds, where guests can immerse themselves in the inky, star-studded skies free from light pollution. The lodge’s inviting pools, tranquil spa, and personalised service add to the overall experience, making Sasaab a haven for relaxation and immersion in the wild beauty of northern Kenya.

Highlights

Luxury Suite

The expansive luxury suites are thoughtfully designed as private sanctuaries, featuring a personal plunge pool, a serene chill-out space (either a veranda or mini-garden), and a spacious open-fronted bathroom. Each room embodies seclusion, tranquility, and breathtaking views of the wilderness. Rooms 1 to 4 boast rooftop stargazing beds.

Nestled on a gently sloping bank, the lodge offers a stunning setting. For those with limited mobility, it is advisable to request a room closer to the main reception area, ensuring easier accessibility.

Family Suite

Tents 8 and 9 provide the ultimate Samburu family suite. Perched a few metres above the Ewaso Nyiro River, they are the lowest tents and command sweeping riverside views. The accommodation is more than spacious, with large double and twin ensuite bedrooms connected by a breezy open sided lounge area in the middle and an expansive wooden deck out to the front. There are ample seating areas for relaxing and a delightful plunge pool looking out over the river.

The front of each tent can be completely opened up so you can gaze out onto nature whilst enjoying a morning tea or coffee in bed. Enjoy high levels of seclusion and a feeling of being totally immersed in the wilderness in your own private villa. The large deck is perfect for private dining if this is required and there is also a separate drive-in entrance to this tent complex should groups wish to avoid walking down the winding gravel pathway from the main dining area.

Our family suite is also suited to groups of friends who want to be together. The central deck, plunge pool and lounge are beautiful spaces for socialising and relaxing with loved ones.

Exclusive use of game drive vehicle is included for all guests staying in the Samburu Family Suite.

Game Drives

Sasaab is located in an area of rich natural diversity with an astounding number of animals, from majestic elephant herds to predatory lion, leopard and cheetah. The bird life in Samburu is exceptional with high concentrations of different species. This area of Kenya is also home to the ‘Samburu Special Five’, a group of animals endemic to this area of northern Kenya and not found elsewhere. They are the Beisa oryx, Reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Gerenuk antelope and Somali ostrich. There are two areas to explore whilst out on a game drive: Westgate Conservancy (which is where Sasaab is located) and the Samburu and Buffalo Springs National Reserves which are a short drive away. Sasaab has a fleet of specially designed open-sided safari vehicles to ensure maximum game viewing and comfort. They are kitted out with suncream, a selection of hot and cold drinks, books and sweets – everything to keep you happy during a game drive! Our professionally trained guides are local Samburu people with an in-depth knowledge of the area, its wildlife and culture.

Fly Camping

For the adventurously-minded, we can arrange an incredible mobile camp experience for guests to sleep out under the stars and truly connect with the wild. Advanced notice and pre-booking is required for this activity.
